Department Profile
The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.
Primary Responsibilities
This individual will be a member of the Americas Accounting Policy group and be responsible for providing subject matter expertise as it relates to U.S. GAAP as follows:
> Provide advisory support to various business units and corporate functions on the application of U.S. GAAP to complex and/or new transactions and document accounting analyses and conclusions
> Monitor emerging accounting standards and assess the impact of evolving standards to Morgan Stanley's businesses
> Coordinate the implementation of new accounting standards with Finance stakeholders
> Assist in developing, updating and maintaining the Firm's global accounting policies
> Participate in the development of training on technical topics and presenting to the global Finance Division
> Review for reasonableness parts of the Firm's SEC 10-K/10-Q reports prior to filing
Requirements
Skills Required
> At least 2 years’ relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role; 2 years in public accounting is preferred
> Undergraduate degree in Accounting (or equivalent) and CPA license
> Financial Services/Banking/Capital Markets industry experience is a plus
> Knowledge and experience with accounting topics in the areas of M&A, financial instruments and structured products is beneficial
> Confidence interacting with senior management across and outside of the Finance Division
> Strong analytic, writing, oral and presentation skills, including ability to summarize complex issues and detailed analysis with clarity and brevity
> Proven track record of working with teams and ability to work across organizational boundaries
> Ability to work effectively individually, escalate as necessary, and collaborate in a team environment
> Proactive and able to manage multiple priorities effectively
> Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
