We are currently seeking a Project Technician, Geologist to perform drilling oversight, geotechnical soil sampling and classification. This is a full-time, temporary position located on a project site in Hobart, IN with an approximate 3-week duration. The anticipated start date is September 22nd.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Oversee geotechnical drilling operations utilizing hollow stem auger drilling techniques, performing standard penetration testing (SPT), and collecting geotechnical soil samples via split spoon sampling.
- Produce boring logs that have soil classifications, rock core classifications, and include site geology conditions.
- Use of air monitoring equipment (PID and 4-gas meter).
- Conduct site reconnaissance.
- Ability to work independently on job site with minimum supervision, prepare detailed notes, and take photographs to document procedures used and observations made during field explorations for use by supervisory or project personnel.
- Prepare daily field reports, including written reports with figures, photographs, and summary tables as required.
- Perform field tests on soil and rock.
- Coordinate scheduling with contractors and subcontractors.
- Monitor the execution of field activities completed by subcontractors.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Coordinate with the internal Haley & Aldrich project team members daily.
- This position will entail field sampling, lifting, and transporting up to 50lbs of field equipment unassisted, bending, walking on uneven ground, working in the elements (following our Health & Safety guidelines), such as heat, rain, etc., and use of personal-protective equipment (PPE).
- Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans and requirements, including required trainings/certification, participation in site safety briefings and audits by both contractors and Haley & Aldrich; plan all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols; and demonstrate the company's foundational safety behaviors.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- 2+ years of related work experience.
- Must have strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
- Must have experience with SPT and collecting soil samples.
- Must have the ability to produce accurate and concise field notes.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must have a reliable form of transportation to travel to/from job site.
- Must have the ability to work 10-hours days Monday through Saturday.
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field.
- Familiarity with set up and use of GPS devices a plus.
- Experience directing subcontractors a plus.
