Veterinary Specialty Center has been the leading multidisciplinary referral center in the Midwest since 1975. We have been honored as one of Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces. As one of the few remaining independently owned specialty practices, Veterinary Specialty Center feels more like a family than a workplace.       

Over the past forty-seven years, we have grown into a team of more than 45 veterinarians & specialists, 170 technicians/assistants, 115 support staff members, and twelve departments. In October 2022, we transitioned into our brand-new LEED and WELL-certified hospital located a few miles from our previous location. In addition to being a state-of-the-art veterinary specialty facility, our new home will have a net-zero carbon footprint, electric vehicle charging on-site, solar panels, rooftop green space, an employee gym, a meditation lounge, and much more!

Our current specialty services include Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency, Critical Care, Grief Counseling and Social Services, Integrative Medicine/Acupuncture, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology (Fall 2023), Medical and Radiation Oncology, Pain Management, Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitative Therapy, and Surgery. In addition, each service is well-staffed with certified veterinary technicians and technician assistants, and we have VTS-certified technicians in ECC, Anesthesia, and Internal Medicine.        

We have all the equipment you would expect to find at a large referral facility. In addition, we have advanced diagnostic & treatment modalities, such as an in-house diagnostic laboratory, 3T MRI & 64-slice CT, fluoroscopy, nuclear scintigraphy, digital & computed radiology, Varian Truebeam linear accelerator, endoscopy, six ultrasounds, laparoscopy/thoracoscopy, interventional radiology and minimally invasive surgery, thermography, underwater treadmills, cold laser therapy, acoustic compression therapy, high flow oxygen therapy, viscoelastography, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

For example, our doctors and staff have started programs in hemodialysis and plasmapheresis, endourology, interventional radiology, and joint replacement; and we are currently developing a neurosurgical program in minimally invasive spinal surgery. If you enjoy teaching, we have flourishing rotating and surgical internship programs and support residents in internal medicine, surgery, radiology, and ECC. Candidates have opportunities for didactic rounds along with frequent chances for continuing education lectures throughout the year.        

Located about 25 miles north of Chicago, our location is well-suited for city living or suburban life. We are just minutes from world-class dining, museums, theaters, and professional sporting events. Lake Michigan offers plenty of opportunities for weekend beach-going and water sports. Milwaukee is less than an hour away, which makes for an easy day trip for a change of scenery, and both O’Hare and Midway International Airports give you easy access to flights worldwide. Requirements

• Residency trained in medical oncology, board certification preferred but not required
• Enthusiastic about mentoring our support staff, externs, interns, and residents
• Collaborate with all doctors and attend grand rounds
• Serve as a resource for our incredible referral community
