JOB OVERVIEW
The Sales Director will oversee all behind the meter sales activities and directly drive new solar and storage Energy Service Agreement (ESA) sales within the US. The Sales organization will rely on you to develop market entry strategies and pursue new opportunities for growth in rapidly expanding and evolving markets. As a leader, the Sales team relies on you to guide critical decision-making at the market level and to determine broader strategic initiatives. You will use your analytic and problem-solving skills to develop persuasive value propositions for prospective clients and sound economic fundamentals for investors. Working collaboratively with a team of development, engineering, legal, and project finance professionals, you will skillfully influence the decision-makers of our current and future clients in conjunction with the Sales organization’s initiatives. The Sales Director sits at the nexus of the Sales organization by skillfully pulling the efforts of the team while still bringing industry-leading individual direct sales experience to the company.
JOB LOCATION AND REPORTING TO
This position will be based in either our San Francisco or New York City office or for the right candidate as a remote position. The Sales Director reports to the VP, Sales and Marketing, and works closely with the Marketing and Sales teams. This position directly manages the behind-the-meter solar and storage sales team in our target markets nationwide.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own sales performance in target markets nationwide.
- Manage individual and team efforts to meet and exceed quota.
- Leverage deep industry knowledge to quickly assess the economic viability of project proposals and propose ways to increase project revenue streams or reduce costs.
- Lead interactions with Finance, Development, Engineering, Legal and Management to help efficiently advance market initiatives and project proposals.
- Track and evaluate emerging regulatory rulings and assess the potential for market creation
- Own the tracking, accountability, and forecasting of sales pipeline.
- Lead contract negotiations through Power Purchase Agreement, Lease, or other relevant project documentation on direct origination efforts.
- Keep sales moving at high velocity while continually looking for opportunistic or strategic opportunities for the company to refine or perfect its approach.
- Coach new salespeople from lead generation to contract negotiation.
- Hire and attract new sales talent to the company as needed.
- Work with the marketing team to ensure conferences and lead generation efforts contribute to sales goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree required and master’s degree preferred
- 7+ years of direct sales experience with a proven history of exceeding sales targets
- 2+ years of management experience
- Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English
- Demonstrated record of leadership in a fast-paced atmosphere
- Strong insight development and value proposition definition skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage diverse relationships and multiple, complex projects simultaneously
- Creativity and critical thinking skills to tackle a variety of challenges from the industry level to client-specific
- Advanced Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
- Solar or renewable energy industry experience a plus
- Strong analytical and computational skills
- Ability to build relationships through both cold and warm outreach
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is primarily sedentary in nature and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk in front of a computer. This position requires approximately 30% travel into certain markets. The Director should be comfortable traveling to site visits which may include construction sites, along with traveling to meet with customers.
