Description: Aleut Federal LLC is seeking a junior-level Geologist/Environmental Scientist to join our Oak Ridge, TN, team serving federal clients. Typical duties involve site investigations, logging boreholes, monitoring wells, and sampling (e.g., low-flow groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, subsurface vapor, air). Along with fieldwork, this position requires supporting the in-office project teams. Work may include preparing tables and maps, evaluating chemical and geological data, and collaborating with staff to make recommendations and prepare memoranda, reports, and proposals.
Your Role:
This position will have field and office responsibilities. Extended travel may be required (up to 50%).
The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting (up to 50 pounds) and maneuvering of equipment and filling sample coolers in a range of weather conditions.
Typical tasks will include planning and preparing fieldwork, drilling and monitoring well installation oversight, logging boreholes, and preparing reports that include text, tables, and figures.
Other duties may be assigned as needed by the supervisor based on the employee's experience level.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in geology, geoscience, environmental science, or a related environmental science field.
Minimum of 25 years of professional environmental consulting experience. Project experience to include carrying out Phase I ESAs (ASTM-compliant), Phase II Site Investigations, vapor intrusion assessments, and RCRA and CERCLA investigations
Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of the MS Office Suite and experience preparing technical reports, memos, response-to-comments tables, and diagrams.
Must be a competent technical writer.
Practical time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a background screening.
Valid state driver's license.
Attention to detail is required. The successful candidate must be able to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data.
Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers.
The successful candidate will work as a problem solver, have an interest in and ability to work collaboratively, and possess the flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
Ability to work extended hours, as required.
Recent college graduates must demonstrate course work applicable to these job requirements by providing transcripts
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training.
Working knowledge of the conceptual site model process.
Postgraduate or additional degrees.
